Shreya Mehta
New York based artist Shreya Mehta has recently launched an online gallery of her works of art (www.shreyamehta.com) with the aim of creating a movement “Art for a Cause”. The proceeds of the sale will be donated 100 per cent to charity, with the buyer having the option of selecting a charity of their choice, if they so desire. The site, which went live on April 24, received over 500 hits within the first two days, which had further risen to 5,100 hits at the end of the first two weeks.
Among the artworks featured are two of her most recent collections – the Charcoal Collection which is a series of sketches in charcoal based on “the innocence of village life” that she experienced while on a pilgrimage to Gujarat in 2010, and her newest work, the Diamond Collection, which is motivated by the family trade and inspired by the inner beauty of diamonds. The first of this series has already been purchased by a leading sightholder.

Shreya says, “My goal is to create a movement ‘Art for a Cause’……. Eventually I would like to reach out to the art community and have more artists join this movement.”
