A new coffee table book ‘Wildlife of the Himalayas’, co-edited by well known naturalists Dr. Ashok S. Kothari and Dr Boman F. Chhapgar, will be released soon by the Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS). The hard cover book will be a collector’s item with rare old paintings and photos as well as interesting articles from the British period on the rich wildlife of the Himalayan region.
‘Wildlife of the Himalayas’ is the fifth in the series of popular coffee table books published by BNHS. The articles, photos and illustrations are culled from the collection of Dr. Kothari, and from other rare precious books and journals in the BNHS library. Dr Kothari is currently the Honorary Secretary of the BNHS.
The reproductions of rare lithographs of Himalayan birds, plants and animals, are by eminent European artists and naturalists such as John Gould, J Forbes Royle, J D Hooker and many others. The animal paintings are by O F Tassart and K Nixon. Of special interest are the ten double spread plates of pheasants famous for their dazzling colours.
The book, priced at Rs 1,250, will be available at BNHS for a limited period at a special pre-publication discount price of Rs 900.
