Rhea Mehta, a student of Std X in Gopi Birla School in Mumbai recently won a commendation prize in the All India Poetry Competition for School Children on Human Values 2010, organised by the Poetry Society of India with the support of the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. Over 2,500 students participated in the competition and Rhea emerged as one of the Top 8 prize winners. Rhea is the daughter of Falguni and Manish Kumudchandra Mehta.

Earlier the Department had sent invitations to over 7,000 schools across the country calling on their students to email their poems on the theme Human Values. Over 2,500 entries were received of which the Board of Judges shortlisted 42. Dr.H.K. Kaul, the Secretary-General of The Poetry Society monitored them to check for plagiarism. Eventually 8 winners, i.e. 1 winner, 2 runners-up and 5 commendation prize winners were chosen, out of which Rhea was one of the commendation prize winner.

Earlier this year, Rhea also won several awards and accolades at the regional level in the art field. She secured the first position in the Road Safety Week Drawing Cum Slogan Competition organised by the Mumbai Traffic Police in association with WIAA Traffic Park, Cooperage. She also stood 2nd in the Bal Mahotsav Event, Poster Making organised by the Swami Shri Prempuriji Ashram Trust. A few months later she stood 1st in the painting event 'Mona Lisa Smile' in the Inter-school event of 'We Are The World' organised by the Rotaract Club of H.R College.
