The temple town of Ambaji in Banaskantha district will soon get a mega facelift in a bid to attract larger numbers of tourists to the pilgrimage centre. This was announced by Gujarat Minister of Health and Tourism Jay Narayan Vyas while speaking at the Gujarat Tourism Summit organized by the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) at Ahmedabad recently.
The government plans to spend Rs 23 crore on development projects in and around the town during the next two years. This includes constructing a 108.3 km parikrama across the surrounding hills and building 51 replicas of the ‘Shaktipeeths'.
Other development plans announced include the setting up of a rejuvenation centre, nursing college and a hospital, development of the Ambaji-Balaram sanctuary and holding of the famous Sharad Mahotsav on a grander scale. The aim is to attract more pilgrims to the temple town and develop it on par with Vaishnodevi and Tirupati.
