Raahil with his parents
Sixteen year old Raahil Shah was the Mumbai topper in the 2011 ICSE exams, results of which were declared recently. Under the new ‘Best of Five’ policy, Raahil scored an astounding 98.66 per cent. Though the ICSE Board has done away with the system of ranks, and no longer formally announces the toppers, newspaper reports confirmed that Raahil had scored the highest marks in Mumbai.
A student of Cathedral & John Connon School Mumbai, Raahil is the son of Binita and Divyesh Shah. His achievement in the school leaving exam comes after his excellent record in academics and extra-curricular activities during his last three years in school. During this period, Raahil won a number of distinctions and prizes for his outstanding academic performance in the school and was also ranked No 9 in the International Mathematics Olympiad in 2008-09. He also won prizes in Inter-School and Intra-School Elocution, Debates and Essay Writing, achieved Distinctions in the Trinity Exam in Speech & Drama, Grade 4 and 5, as well as won the 1st Prize in the Saffron Art competition.
An elated Raahil told the press, “I didn’t attend any private coaching classes; you can do well by simply paying attention to the school teachers. I focused on Mathematics and Science.”
