Dr Jatin Kothari to Receive Prestigious ANIO Community Service Award 2023 in US

Dr Jatin R. Kothari, Director of Nephrology and Chief Consultant - Renal Transplant at Nanavati Max Hospital, Mumbai, and Founding Trustee of Apex Kidney Foundation (AKF) has been selected for the prestigious American Nephrologists of Indian Origin (ANIO) Community Service Award 2023. The award will be presented at the ASN 2023 conference being organised by American Society of Nephrology in Philadelphia next month. ANIO is a 3,000+ members’ association and includes some really big names in the field. 
 

Dr Kothari is only the fifth nephrologist practising in India to receive the award in this category to date, and also possibly the youngest ever recipient. Earlier awardees include such well-known doctors as Late Prof Kirpal S. Chugh, Mohan Rajapurkar, Natarajan Gopalakrishnan and Rajan Ravichandran.
 

In addition to his work at Nanavati Max and AKF, Dr Kothari is Section Coordinator and Visiting Consultant Nephrologist -P D Hinduja Hospital-Khar, Mumbai. AKF is an NGO dedicated to create awareness about prevention and treatment of kidney disease was set up by him.
 

He is also currently Director and Founder of a unique Social Enterprise called ‘Apex Kidney Care’, which is probably the largest dialysis service provider owned by nephrologists anywhere in the world. It currently has 180+ dialysis centers across nine states in India, which provide subsidized high quality kidney care services @ <20 USD per session.
 

Having completed his MBBS, MD and DM in Nephrology from the Seth GS Medical College and KEM Hospital in Mumbai, as a university topper with distinction honors at all levels, Dr Kothari undertook further advanced fellowship and scholarship training in Toronto-Canada and Columbia-USA before returning to India. 
 

In 2008-2010, he along with other colleagues set up the Apex Kidney Care (AKC), Apex Kidney Foundation (AKF) and the Apex Swap Transplant Registry (ASTRA) in 2008 and 2010 respectively to look at innovations and new ways of improving kidney care and legal transplants in the country.

 

Dr Kothari also serves as a Trustee of Noon Charitable hospital at Bhawanimandi, Rajasthan and Founder/Director of Mediopolis Lifecare Hospital, Palanpur, Gujarat and is an honorary Visiting Nephrologist at the Siddhivinayak Charitable Dialysis Center, Mumbai.
