Prof (Dr.) Ashok R Mehta, senior cancer surgeon and former Chief of Surgery, Tata Memorial Hospital was one of the recipients of the Cancer Crusader Awards given by The Cancer Foundation to a few select professionals for their selfless contribution to cancer patients in India.
The awards were distributed at New Delhi on May 14 at a special function, held along with the day-long deliberations and recommendatory event on Affordable Cancer Care in India 2022. The Awards function was graced by His Excellency Dr Karan Singh & Mr Alejandro Simancas Marin, Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba.
The Cancer Foundation (bcpbf) is an equal opportunity support organization which comprises of well-known medical professional, financial experts, entrepreneurs, gutsy survivors and philanthropic members of the community.
It aims to aims to create awareness, raise funds and make a difference in the lives of financially constrained cancer patients in India, by supporting those who cannot afford the treatment, increasing knowledge among those unaware of the disease and training/motivating care-givers.
Alongside his many outstanding professional achievements, Dr Mehta has been conferred with multiple awards for his contribution as a cancer surgeon. In addition, he has been at the forefront of bringing values to the medical profession and conducted programmes on Values in Healthcare - Spiritual Approach (VIHASA) all over the country since 2006. Associated with Brahmakumaris, he is President Medical Wing of Rajyoga Education & Research Foundation.
He was recently conferred a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 81st Annual Conference of Association of Surgeons of India.
