He was one of the first members elected to the Rajya Sabha from Gujarat in 1960 and was also member of the Advisory Committee of Small Scale Industry.
Post the merger of Palanpur with the Indian Union, Iqbal Mohammed Khan moved to Mumbai where he pursued his interests in business and industry. He was associated with companies like Ocean Cable, Kama and Shalimar Biscuit for many years, and was also a Director of the Bombay Mercantile Bank.
He was also appointed AngRakshak or Honorary ADC to President Rajendra Prasad and later also to Presidents Radhakrishnan, Zakir Husain and V. V. Giri.
In 1958 he became head of the Indo-Arab Society, in 1963-64 he was primarily involved with the Urdu Night Schools and in 1969 was made Indian President of the UNESCO affiliated Bharatiya Natya Sangh and represented the organization at international conferences in Germany, London, Sweden, Russia and other countries.
Nawabsaheb was closely associated with the social activities of Palanpuri organizations, especially in Mumbai. He was the first President of Palanpur Samaj Kendra (PSK), Mumbai when it was founded in 1964. He inaugurated the Zaveri Mangalji Vamalshi Dispensary in Palanpur and other projects of different social organizations and was Presidentof King George V Club, Palanpur.
Nawabsaheb had built close relationship with people of Palanpur in Mumbai and over the years graced several functions of Vidyamandir Trust and PSK, Mumbai including the inauguration of Palanpur Online in 2008.
His wife Late HH Maqbul Jehan Begum of Dasada died a few years earlier. They are survived by three children viz. Nawabzada Saheb Muzaffer Khan, Sahebzada YusufKhan and Sahebzadi Rafat Begum Saheba.
